Guy and Jeska – A Model Marries a Musician – Funky Engagement Photos

November 26, 2018 by Josh Baker

If you have followed our blog at all, you know that we love to highlight the personality of our couple. We also love stepping away from traditional engagement photos when we get the chance. A little serendipity put me in Anaheim to photograph a conventions. Guy Forsyth and Jeska were performing for there also. After a little scheduling fun, we seized the opportunity to have a little fun with them. We made some funky engagement photos around the Anaheim convention center.

Jeska is a professional model and Guy is a professional musician and song writer. They are a couple that likes to be in front of people and knows how to put on an performance. Neither of them is shy and they both like to bring it when it comes to a photo session.

The end end we had a lot of fun making these photos as a collaboration. We only had a small time slot when we were all free from our professional obligations at the conference. We stepped out and worked with the fountains and lights of the Hilton hotel and convention center.

We mixed in a lot of color and effects like shutter drag in these funky engagement photos. We wanted them to feel a little like the couple was on stage.

They aren’t your traditional engagement photos, but they match the couple’s personality perfectly and we love that.

Haley and Hunter Engagement

November 12, 2018 by Josh Baker

We love to create engagement sessions that match our couple’s lifestyle. Haley and Hunter love the outdoors and are both sportsmen. We headed to a friends farm out near Little River for some outdoor sportsman engagement photos.

Outdoor Sportsman Engagement

Things kicked off with a little fishin’. Haley hooked a bass right off.

Hunter, very thoughtfully we thought, made sure to only catch a tiny bass. I’m sure he just didn’t want to overshadow Haley’s catch.

Fishing complete, our outdoor couple headed back to base camp and changed for the second half of their engagement session.

Getting Prettied Up

The bard wire contrasts with the beauty of Haley’s engagement ring. I liked how the rust and light blue of the corrugated sheet metal wall behind the ring complimented the ring. The barbed wire seemed fitting for this outdoor couple. Their friends farm had interesting hills, and erosion features.

Haley put on a beautiful flowing copper colored dress and Hunter went with the class: jeans, boots and a button down shirt. The rolling hills of eastern-central Texas, the fall colors and their outfits all go perfectly together.

Meagan and Austin’s Landa Park Engagement

September 24, 2018 by Josh Baker

Growing up in Seguin we sort of took Landa Park for granted. There is nothing better on a hot summer day than a dip in the cool head waters of the Comal river that originates in Landa Park. Austin and Meagan are from New Braunfels and Landa looms large for them too. We headed there for their Landa Park engagement photos.

A History with Landa Park

Austin and Meghan Landa Park Engagement Photos

Meagan grew up watching her dad play at evening dances in the park at the Landa Park Dance Slab so of course we had to stop there. A lot of musicians have played there since 1990 when it was built. Landa was their local play ground and swimming hole.

The spring itself is ecologically sensitive with several endemic and endangered species calling it home. We stayed on the bank and rocks in the area around the spring mouth. It is still quite beautiful.

Even in April it is warm in Texas so getting in the water was a pretty easy call during the engagement shoot. This wasn’t really a full adventure engagement but it is nice to get off the beaten path a bit.

Ale: Mystic McKinney Falls, Austin Senior Portraits

June 2, 2016 by Andrew Fritz

Ale - McKinney Falls - Senior Portraits - 20

Ale, a long time friend of AzulOx, contacted us to do her College Senior Portraits. She knew what we were all about and wanted to use our expertise to craft images that told a story of a young woman who wasn’t so approachable, a woman in nature with maybe a bit of magic to her. We chose the setting of McKinney Falls in south Austin to add a touch of history and a feel for the story of Austin. The water around the falls was really running strong so we started there with time slowing techniques to capture Alejandra with an infinite feel, like she had always been there. The sun was peaking around the clouds here and there and for a moment it felt like we were in another Continent with the way the light was bending.

We finished when the light from the day was almost entirely gone and the clouds were at the most dramatic. We took one of the darker portraits and took it a step further with a few crow composites to really drive home the magical feel of the evening. What type of magic can AzulOx conjure for your special portraits?

Joseph and Sara: Horseshoe Bay Wedding

March 24, 2016 by Andrew Fritz

20160322__AF13962

We have been eagerly anticipating Joseph and Sara’s wedding.  Their Hill Country Engagement shoot was fun, relaxed, and resulted in some of our favorite images (and moments) from last year. Unsurprisingly their wedding had the same vibe, a small ceremony on the patio over the lake surrounded by family and friends, some tasty BBQ (mmm… Sticky Bones…), a little dancing and some chilling by the lake (thanks to a great planner: Karla McNeil). Really, it’s hard to imagine a more perfect day for Joseph and Sara’s wedding.

Stay tuned for a coming soon video from their wedding day. For now, enjoy the pictures and congratulate the couple.

Stephanie & Jason: Mansion by the Sea Wedding in Port Aransas

June 4, 2014 by Josh Baker

MarksKoonSocial#-24

We love our clients, I know I mention that over and over and it is the truth so it bears repeating. Stephanie is co-owner of Bettie Bangs Salon and we have worked together on various projects over the years. She loves our work and I love working with her so when she called up asking to come to Port Aransas, Texas for the weekend to photograph their wedding at the Mansion by the Sea I jumped at the chance. You might have already seen their sunset engagements but we continued our theme of water and sun with Jason and Stephanie for their wedding day.

The sunlight was oozing through the palm trees and the ocean breeze kept the rising Texas heat off of our shoulders when Stephanie and Jason said “I do”. Friends and Family gathered round the rest of the evening, well, until the cake begun flying around the room. I must say that I have never seen a more committed wedding party as 20 or so guests walked out into the bay to get a unique group photo.

Thanks for having us out Stephanie, look forward to seeing the life you and Jason build together!

Ivy & Dan: Soaked Engagement Session

October 29, 2013 by Josh Baker

Ivy & Dan's Austin Engagement Session #-20

Talking with Ivy on the phone she gave me the freedom to shoot whatever I wanted for part of their engagement session, a dangerous proposition for our creative juices. The theme I came back to was my Soaked Series, (view previous editions here | here | and here) I love doing them and the photos seem to come out with a different sheen to them. Our inspiration for this particular sessionn was Justin Timberlake’s “Suit & Tie”. We told Dan to be JT and he responded pretty well to the role, playing that Hollywood look with seriousness and indifference. Ivy had a hard time keeping a straight face, something about playing a female role was difficult for her after acting out so many different/masculine roles for us over the years.

Let’s walk through the photos real quick for those interested in such things. First photo to me could be a movie poster, maybe a Mr. and Mrs. Smith Sequel? The second shows Dan at his indifferent best, which is a hard look when cold water is raining down your shirt and pants. The third might be my favorite of all. A good warm/cool contrast that plays well with their non-soaked photos. The fourth shows Ivy not able to stay in character, come on Hollywood! And the last photo shows the setup before we turned the water on, looks almost normal doesn’t it? Key light as a spot with two edge lights.

We will write another blog post detailing their “normal” around Austin Engagement Portraits soon, but for now let’s get Soaked!

Cindy’s 10 year Bridal Portraits: Austin, Texas

October 12, 2012 by Josh Baker

Searching amongst the trees

What a blast we had last weekend photographing Cindy and her husband for their 10 year anniversary photos! I think this is a tradition that more couples should pick up because we all have a great time and the photos turn out super terrific. One of the fun parts is that the dress doesn’t have to look good in front of 100’s of people in the next few weeks, so we can get a little more adventuresome with our placements of the bride. Not that the we have ever been accused of being boring. We headed down to the Long Center area of Austin to get a few with downtown skyline views and then a few more nature feeling spots. We also knew that we would get wet at some point (although it was a bit cold for our semi-planned Barton Springs section) and there is a great fountain to play with next to Doug Sahm’s Hill. We also had a super cool Cypress tree that was just asking to be photographed. Trees are very demanding in Autumn.

Also, shout out to my conspirators at Flower Child Design for the bouquet, always stellar work.

Let us know in the comment section with of these is your favorite. And if you are married and have an anniversary coming up, these make great gifts! wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Skyline views, but I only have eyes for you
