Escape the Texas summer heat and photograph a beautiful southern California wedding? Yes please! We were thrilled to be able to photograph Ashley & Andrew in Camarillo, California at the beautiful McCormick Ranch House venue. For the sharp-eyed blog readers, you might remember this couple from their silly bounce house engagement session. The mood of the evening was low-key and casual with personal touches and style that represented the couple well. This intimate gathering had the glow of witnessed bliss and families coming together. The music echoed off of chinese lanterns and palm tress throughout the night and the music finished with a crowd sung version of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'”.
This wedding had a couple of firsts and we saw a few new traditions that we liked as well. The first first is this was our first time in Southern California to photograph a wedding, and yes we are ready to go back and wear sweaters in the summer. It was our longest roadtrip to date, as we covered about 40 hours of driving round trip from Austin to Los Angeles and back. My favorite new tradition that we saw for the first time is the tunnel run up to the cake cutting. So many times the cake cutting gets lost in the shuffle, but this tradition brought everyone out of their seats in an inventive way from the dance floor to the cake service. The reception also saw an excellent Dirty Dancing mashup played on an electric ukulele, another first for us. The last first is the promoted use of the instagram hashtag “#aandatietheknot” Search that term and you can follow along with the weekends action from everyone instagramming the wedding (and it makes sense of the group shot about halfway down)
As always thanks to the wedding professionals who make our day so easy. A big shoutout and thank you to Joelle Duff from A Charming Occasion, she made us feel welcome and gave us some good local pointers. Thanks Joelle!
