Guy and Jeska – A Model Marries a Musician – Funky Engagement Photos

If you have followed our blog at all, you know that we love to highlight the personality of our couple. We also love stepping away from traditional engagement photos when we get the chance. A little serendipity put me in Anaheim to photograph a conventions. Guy Forsyth and Jeska were performing for there also. After a little scheduling fun, we seized the opportunity to have a little fun with them. We made some funky engagement photos around the Anaheim convention center.

Jeska is a professional model and Guy is a professional musician and song writer. They are a couple that likes to be in front of people and knows how to put on an performance. Neither of them is shy and they both like to bring it when it comes to a photo session.

The end end we had a lot of fun making these photos as a collaboration. We only had a small time slot when we were all free from our professional obligations at the conference. We stepped out and worked with the fountains and lights of the Hilton hotel and convention center.

We mixed in a lot of color and effects like shutter drag in these funky engagement photos. We wanted them to feel a little like the couple was on stage.

They aren’t your traditional engagement photos, but they match the couple’s personality perfectly and we love that.

Emily and Jasper’s Banff Destination Wedding

Emily and Jasper decided they wanted their wedding to be an adventure. It turned into a Banff destination wedding.

We met Emily and Jasper at one of my pre-NAPfS “Camera and Coffee” events a few years back. It didn’t take long for her (and Jasper) to slot into #TeamBlue and start shooting with us. Pretty early on, she mentioned that they were getting married in a couple years and asked:

Would you be willing to go to Denali and do the wedding in the back country?

Uhm, YES! It turns out that Emily and Jasper are exactly our type of crazy.

Fast forward to 2017. Plans changed and we ended up in Banff National Park in Canada instead. Getting to their wedding was a pretty epic road trip including a stop over in the Teton’s for the total solar eclipse and a Bonnie and Clyde “day before” shoot. That story will have to wait for another blog post though.

Banff was unbelievable beautiful. It’s hard to relate just how spectacular a backdrop the mountains are.

Emily and Jasper are both professional photographers. They gave me free reign to set the schedule around the light. We actually did the couples portraits starting at about 6AM (4:30AM call time – yes, they and the wedding party are hard core) with the ceremony afterwards mid morning.

This was a minimalist wedding all about the couple and location. Emily made the small number of DIY details they had and they fit the location perfectly.

Taylor and Alex: Joshua Tree Adventure Engagement

When couples say yes to our crazy ideas, spectacular things happen. We met Taylor and Alex at the Georgetown Bridal Show even though they live in the Bay Area (as in California). Conversations ensued. We road tripped out to meet them at Joshua Tree for a destination adventure engagement.

Joshua Tree National Park is a dream location. It is the sort of place where a photographer can point their camera in any direction and get spectacular photos. We started in the Cholla Garden, hung out at Skull Rock for sunset and then watch moon rise in Hidden Valley.  Needless to say, we had a ton of fun on this one.

This Adventure Engagement is getting more epic with every hour that passed us by.  You haven’t experienced a sunset, until you’ve seen one at Joshua Tree.  The colors are absolutely breathtaking, and the miles and miles of natural beauty is amazing.

Adventure engagement photos, are more than just pictures.  It’s not at a typical location around the corner,and having to smile on the count of 3 a hundred times.  Instead you’re checking something off your bucket list, making memories, it feels natural and counting to 3 isn’t necessary.

On this adventure engagement, we never had a dull moment.  Soon after the sun sets, we get everything set up and prepared for the couples next photo session.

Getting out of the city is absolutely amazing because of a few reasons.  One,you get to say goodbye to the city lights polluting our sky.  Capturing the couple with this beautiful landscape, the Stars shining bright in the sky has made their adventure engagement unforgettable.  And they have pictures to take home, so they can brag to their friends.

Veronica & Graham: New Orleans Wedding

Our first destination wedding of the Summer is Veronica & Graham from the Crescent City… New Orleans! (click here for the amazing day before bridal portraits) The day started at the famous Hotel Monteleone, home of the carousel bar, where Veronica and her brides gathered, got ready and generally got going. From there down St. Charles to Loyola University for the amazing chapel with the longest aisle I have even photographed at a wedding. Seems like a football field from back door to the altar. The day finished with a rousing dinner at Brennan’s (where Banana’s Foster was invented) and a only-in-New Orleans-Exit with a brass band.

Congratulations to the new Garret’s! Proud of yall!

Casey Jo & Scotty Mac: Mt. Pisgah Arboretum Wedding in Eugene, Oregon

Casey Jo & Scotty Mac’s wedding was full of honest love for each other, laughter among all the attendants and lots of flying marshmallows. You might know this couple as the leaping bluebonnet engagement photo as this is one of the most commented on photo we have ever produced. You might know Casey Jo as an amazing gymnast who is now coaching Div. 1 gymnasts at Missouri. You might know Scotty Mac as the fastest man in town, whichever town, he is quick after finishing 19th in the last Boston Marathon. But the thing that you should know about them is that they are absolutely mad for each other.

I don’t know if I have ever laughed so much during a wedding ceremony. There was a movie trivia round featuring Romantic Comedies, the fathers had to run to get drinks for the mid-ceremony toasts and during the first kiss heaps of marshmallows progessed airborne onto the kissing couple. There was also the matter of the gymnastic scoring system for the high points, 10’s all around. Yes they also had a surprise first dance medley that covered the low lights of 90’s pop music to start the dancing portion of the reception, luckily we had a video camera in place for just such a thing…

We are honored to have the opportunity to escape the Texas heat and photograph this wedding in the Great Pacific Northwest. Congratulations to the happy couple, thanks for inviting us and welcoming us into your families!
