Emily and Jasper’s Banff Destination Wedding

Emily and Jasper decided they wanted their wedding to be an adventure. It turned into a Banff destination wedding.

We met Emily and Jasper at one of my pre-NAPfS “Camera and Coffee” events a few years back. It didn’t take long for her (and Jasper) to slot into #TeamBlue and start shooting with us. Pretty early on, she mentioned that they were getting married in a couple years and asked:

Would you be willing to go to Denali and do the wedding in the back country?

Uhm, YES! It turns out that Emily and Jasper are exactly our type of crazy.

Fast forward to 2017. Plans changed and we ended up in Banff National Park in Canada instead. Getting to their wedding was a pretty epic road trip including a stop over in the Teton’s for the total solar eclipse and a Bonnie and Clyde “day before” shoot. That story will have to wait for another blog post though.

Banff was unbelievable beautiful. It’s hard to relate just how spectacular a backdrop the mountains are.

Emily and Jasper are both professional photographers. They gave me free reign to set the schedule around the light. We actually did the couples portraits starting at about 6AM (4:30AM call time – yes, they and the wedding party are hard core) with the ceremony afterwards mid morning.

This was a minimalist wedding all about the couple and location. Emily made the small number of DIY details they had and they fit the location perfectly.

After we finished up the sunrise portraits, Emily and Jasper got officially hitched by their friend Greg.

Because of COURSE I was going to make more pictures of Emily and Jasper while I had mountains and such an adventurous couple.

Chris and Samantha’s Soaked Engagement Shoot

Most couples are hoping for beautiful weather and clears skies during their engagement sessions. Move over Gene Kelly, we have another couple celebrating in the rain. Chris and Samantha embraced their creative side, and wanted soaked engagement photos. We couldn’t have been happier!

We took over for Mother Nature on that hot summer day, and gladly took on the task of spraying the couple with the water hose. In July, in Texas, this is a much cooler way to conduct a photo shoot. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it! (Bonus – you don’t have to water the grass later either.)

Some couples want normal engagement wandering in a park. There is nothing wrong with that, but we like to push the limits some. Some times that takes the form of astro-portraits, mountain biking together or kayaking. In this case, we just added water.

Here we have some behind the scenes action. Is AzulOx making sure the lighting is perfect or is this a classic photo bomb?

Jessica and Mark – Ranch Austin Wedding

Jessica and Mark’s Ranch Austin wedding was a magical day: a beautiful couple, perfect weather, a crazy party and finally, an after party on 6th street in Austin.

Jessica and Mark picked the perfect venue for their Driftwood wedding. An Irish lass married an Irish boy and they had a good old Texas style party. Jessica and Mark wanted to show all their out of town friends and guests a little Austin fun. After the reception finished, the party moved to 6th street for an after party.

Hallie and Jonathan – Green Family Camp Wedding

A Waco DIY Wedding

Hallie and Jonathan’s Waco DIY wedding could not have been more beautiful. Their friends and family traveled from across the country to the Greene Family Camp, which has been in Jonathan’s family for over 20 years. It was a day of celebration as well as a trip down memory lane; many of the guests had fun stories of visiting the camp as kids. Their 3-day celebration kicked off with a BBQ and campfire where we found some great moments to capture their carefree personalities.

Friday started with a wild flower engagement session near the lake, a BBQ and smores at a campfire. The rain didn’t stop the first look in the iconic Texas bluebonnets and a ceremony in the woods. The reception turned into an energetic celebration.

Jonathan and Hallie live out of town so we didn’t get a chance to do actual engagements. With everyone staying at camp before the wedding we were able to go out to the camp lake. It is wildflower season in Texas which is never a bad thing. As the evening continued, Jonathan and Hallie stepped out with us for some sunset photos before their BBQ and Smores party. We finished the night with a star trail engagement photos.

The Wedding – Getting Ready

The Bluebonnet First Look

When you have a field of bluebonnets available for a first look, you use a field of bluebonnets! The flowers made a nice setting for some great first look moments.

Outdoor Wedding Ceremony

The camp had a couple of temple spaces including this one in the forest. It made a perfect setting for Jonathan and Hallie’s outdoor wedding ceremony.

The Reception

With just about everyone staying on site, the couple and guests were free to really cut loose. We hung out through about 1 AM and the party was still going strong.
