Guy and Jeska – A Model Marries a Musician – Funky Engagement Photos

November 26, 2018 by Josh Baker

If you have followed our blog at all, you know that we love to highlight the personality of our couple. We also love stepping away from traditional engagement photos when we get the chance. A little serendipity put me in Anaheim to photograph a conventions. Guy Forsyth and Jeska were performing for there also. After a little scheduling fun, we seized the opportunity to have a little fun with them. We made some funky engagement photos around the Anaheim convention center.

Jeska is a professional model and Guy is a professional musician and song writer. They are a couple that likes to be in front of people and knows how to put on an performance. Neither of them is shy and they both like to bring it when it comes to a photo session.

The end end we had a lot of fun making these photos as a collaboration. We only had a small time slot when we were all free from our professional obligations at the conference. We stepped out and worked with the fountains and lights of the Hilton hotel and convention center.

We mixed in a lot of color and effects like shutter drag in these funky engagement photos. We wanted them to feel a little like the couple was on stage.

They aren’t your traditional engagement photos, but they match the couple’s personality perfectly and we love that.

Adventure Engagements of Sarah and Cliff – Enchanted Rock

February 14, 2018 by Andrew Fritz

Sarah and Cliff both share a love for adventure, the outdoors, hiking, and exploring.  So of course it made perfect sense to venture out to Enchanted Rock for their adventure engagement.

For anyone who hasn’t taken the beautiful drive to Fredericksburg to visit Enchanted Rock, I suggest you do.  There are plenty of activities to do for any outdoor enthusiast.  The scenery is lovely, including a massive pink granite dome rising above everything.  Enchanted Rock Park has 11 miles of trails, ranging from easy to extremely difficult.

As you can see the terrain isn’t a simple walk in the park, you get your exercise in for sure.  Now imagine having to carry a 100 pounds of camera equipment and lights?  Team Blue loves adventure, and don’t mind putting sweat and tears into your perfect adventure engagement session.  We love the challenge!

The view’s are breath taking, and well worth the hike up.  The sunsets are magical and full of color.

We love taking astro-portraits, and never miss a chance to do so.  With the City miles and miles away, the sky is blanketed with bright stars.

Have an idea for your engagement session?  We’d love to hear them!

Taylor and Alex: Joshua Tree Adventure Engagement

October 22, 2016 by Andrew Fritz

When couples say yes to our crazy ideas, spectacular things happen. We met Taylor and Alex at the Georgetown Bridal Show even though they live in the Bay Area (as in California). Conversations ensued. We road tripped out to meet them at Joshua Tree for a destination adventure engagement.

Joshua Tree National Park is a dream location. It is the sort of place where a photographer can point their camera in any direction and get spectacular photos. We started in the Cholla Garden, hung out at Skull Rock for sunset and then watch moon rise in Hidden Valley.  Needless to say, we had a ton of fun on this one.

This Adventure Engagement is getting more epic with every hour that passed us by.  You haven’t experienced a sunset, until you’ve seen one at Joshua Tree.  The colors are absolutely breathtaking, and the miles and miles of natural beauty is amazing.

Adventure engagement photos, are more than just pictures.  It’s not at a typical location around the corner, and having to smile on the count of 3 a hundred times.  Instead you’re checking something off your bucket list, making memories, it feels natural and counting to 3 isn’t necessary.

On this adventure engagement, we never had a dull moment.  Soon after the sun sets, we get everything set up and prepared for the couples next photo session.

taylor-and-alex-joshua-tree-adventure-engagement-highlights-008

Getting out of the city is absolutely amazing because of a few reasons.  One,you get to say goodbye to the city lights polluting our sky.  Capturing the couple with this beautiful landscape, the Stars shining bright in the sky has made their adventure engagement unforgettable.  And they have pictures to take home, so they can brag to their friends.

alex-taylor-joshua-tree-engagement-social-12

We’re always up for a challenge and love adventures.  We like to see what kind of creative ideas couples can come up with.  We don’t  just take photographs, we tell stories.  Let us bring your story to life, your adventure awaits!

Michelle & Antonio: Engagement Session in Dallas

August 13, 2015 by Josh Baker

Dallas Skyline Engagement Session
Dallas Skyline Engagement Session

Been a bit of a whirlwind this summer with assignments and shoots around the big state of Texas. And truth be told this engagement session in Dallas had me a bit nervous. See, Antonio is a photographer himself and has high expectations. Michelle’s older brother turns out to be a running friend of mine. So we had a bit of pressure on either side to turn in something fairly epic. The shoot itself took place mostly in the Arts district in downtown Dallas and finished in a secret parking garage to get twilight skyline views. The pressure went out the door the moment we pressed the first shutter. Tonio and Michelle are just a riot to work with; funny, smart, charming and a very beautiful couple. We had a bunch of fun playing with water, light and lines in ways to tell their love story. My favorite is the last photo in yellow… comfortable in front of the camera much?

Look for this couple’s wedding at Lone Oak Barn planned by Life Styled Events in September, we have been plans for that day too!

Bhumi & Savan: Houston Theater District Engagement

July 24, 2015 by Josh Baker

BhumiSavanSocial-3

Uptown Style. Bhumi & Savan’s Houston Engagement session featured backdrops at the Williams Water Wall and then into the Theater District. Bhumi wore 3 distinct dresses, from her traditional sari to a classic little black dress. Savan was the perfect future husband accessory to Bhumi’s style, he looked great in a suit and stood stoic in the photos letting loose with the occassional ear to ear grin.

Tell us your perfect Engagement Experience and how we can help photograph it, always up for new ideas

Julie & Garrett: San Antonio Riverwalk Engagement

July 8, 2015 by Josh Baker

JulieSocial-3

Whirlwind! Julie & Garrett wanted to do an engagement shoot that showed off their rambling, adventuresome side. We met at the Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio and palled around there for a while in the giant pagoda and near the waterfall until we found these exploding red flowers. Also had to utilize the old concrete kiln that produced the first Portland Cement west of the Mississippi.

From there a quick trip to Alamo Brewing Company and the restored railroad bridge that traverses the train tracks. A needed pint of hefeweizen and off again to the Riverwalk area of downtown.

This was the crazy part of the session. The Riverwalk was packed with tourists making it hard to walk along the historic sidewalks. The river barge operators spotted us every time and cajoled the crowd into cheering for Julie & Garrett. But finally we found the quieter parts of the old river and made the glowy sunset photos we were after.

We love this type of engagement session, where only a rough outline of the day is drawn and we spend our time chasing the light and color we seek to define the mood. Thanks to Julie & Garrett for running around town with us!

Haide & Manny: Guanajuato, Mexico Engagements Part 2

July 17, 2014 by Josh Baker

Guanajuato Engagements #-2Blog

Continuing on our Mexico Road Trip adventures (part 1 is here) the action has moved to Guanajuato, Mexico a town that holds so much magic for me as it was the town where I studied in the summer of 1998 after my freshman year of college. In 16 years and the town hasn’t changed. Still ate at my favorite restaurant Truco Siete and El Pipila still looks down upon the town he helped to protect. If you want to feel like you have traveled to Europe but still want to eat green enchiladas I highly recommend Guanajuato, just a gorgeous old world city. The views and streets and colors made this Engagement session super special to me. We walked the streets, chased the light and took in the town.

Again, thank you to our client Haide & Manny for putting us up for a few days in their parents house in Dolores Hidalgo and for speaking with all the checkpoint and shakedown stations. Yall are rockstars in the photographs and in real life. We are so excited for what the future hold for yall. This session will be one that Andrew and I remember for our lifetimes, thanks for the opportunity to travel and photograph!

Haide & Manny: Dolores Hidalgo, Mexico Engagements Part 1

July 8, 2014 by Josh Baker

Dolores Hidalgo Engagements
Let me introduce yall to Haide and Manny. You are going to be seeing several blog posts about this couple. We all just returned from a 5 day road trip to Central Mexico to photograph Haide’s Bridal Portraits at a 400 year old Hacienda and to photograph their Engagement portraits in Dolores Hildalgo and Guanajuato. The other part to the We is Andrew Fritz, our partner in picture taking. Will be sharing some of his work on the facebook page when he gets back. A big thanks to the Gonzalez family for hosting us and showing us the best Torta places in Las Trancas!

Timeline wise this session took place on the evening after we photographed her bridal portraits. Dolores Hildalgo is the town in Mexico where Father Hildalgo gave his Grito to kick off the Mexico battle for Independence from Spain and Guanajuato is the site of the first battle to give you a sense of place, time and history.

Anyhow, Dolores Hidalgo is a town of about 50,000 residents with beautiful and historic churches and a ceramic industry. The walls of the town are painted with a variety of colores and textures, more so than any American town I have seen. As photographers we are always seeking out color and texture and Dolores was almost too much to handle. We could have probably taken photographs on any street corner. So instead of chasing color and texture we chased the sunlight to give us shape and dimension. Of course along the way we had to stop for some street corner ice cream and all the unique flavors from different fruits and alcohols. Best way to shoot in my opinion was with the Bacardi pineapple ice cream in one hand and the camera in another!

Next week we hope to share the session from Guanajuato which is the town partially responsible for AzulOx getting it’s name!
