Met up with some fantastic hula hooper’s/acrobats/cool gals at Pease Park for a bonus session to our Austin City Lypse.
I was working with the group on mixing strobes with ambient exposure to create dramatic light. I think the above photo works well to describe that. Thank you Emily for not hitting me with the hoop. I was fairly close with the wide angle lens. I captured a little bit of HD video, which takes me too much time to edit for a sneak peak blog, let us just agree that it looks sweet.
We also advanced from a one light setup balancing against a dark sky, to a three light setup with edge-edge-fill. We even broke out the generator so we could run the Einsteins with modeling lights so that we could focus.
And then the really crazy techniques started coming out. Geoff was doing really rad stuff with long exposure starting with a flash then ambient. I took the opposite approach by letting the ambient burn in for 20 seconds, and then manually popping the flash at the end. Fun effect.
Of course, a ‘lypse wouldn’t be compete with out a few ringflash shots. This year, we put on a super wide angle for more distorted effects
Tomorrow we will bring you Victorian Era Tea and Crumpets and some Collegiate Tail gatin’ action.
Until then, JB
