What a fun and energetic photoshoot with Alex last night. She needed images for her Dance tryouts in L.A. toward the end of the month, so we covered a few different styles of clothing and dance.
We hit up the area around Seaholm Power Plant, the closed power station in Austin that looks like it should be in Gotham City. A good mix of urban and industrial can be found there.
Alex moves so well in these photos, the only problem I had was to get her to not smile! We settled on the notion for her to just roll through her routines and I would capture as she went. Allowed her to get more into her character for each scene.
And my favorite set of images is exemplified by the matrix looking photo here. I have seen people do this type of shot against a black backdrop in the studio, but not really done with ambient light outside. For the camera nerds out there, I was at iso 50, f22 and 5 seconds. We fired multiple shots with an Einstein 640 WS studio flash with a beauty fish at full power. (enough light to affect the exposure on the building 400 yards away.) Check the bonus pictures on the AzulOx Facebook page for some outtakes of this setup.
Thanks to Mary Elise for keeping track of the ColorChecker Passport. And a big thanks to my assistant Lauren, who is always up and ready for anything crazy. We love that about you.
